Teeth whitening

Our teeth become stained by every day activities such as drinking red wine and coffee, eating blackcurrants and smoking, and although regular visits to the hygienist will help to clean your teeth, they will not remove deeply embedded stains. Fortunately for us, teeth whitening is a fantastic way to give both your smile and confidence a boost.

What does it involve?
After our highly-skilled team has determined that you are eligible for the treatment, they will place a rubber shield on your gums to protect them, before applying the whitening product to your teeth using a custom-made tray. The active ingredient, usually hydrogen peroxide, is then broken down – allowing oxygen to penetrate the enamel of the teeth, making them lighter.

How long does it take?
The total treatment can usually be completed within three to four weeks, whilst the actual procedure normally takes one hour. We also offer a take-home whitening kit, comprising of custom-made trays and a special whitening gel.

How long do the effects last?
As a general rule, your teeth will remain whiter for up to three years, but this will vary from person to person depending on lifestyle.

Are there any side effects?
Some people find their teeth are a bit more sensitive afterwards, whilst others may have some discomfort on the gums, but these effects are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing.

Here at Chelwood Dental Practice we are delighted to offer the latest technology to give your teeth a bright and white makeover, and our comprehensive service includes a consultation, scale and polish and full maintenance program.
